Capturing the Contrasts of Burton-upon-Trent: A Photographer's Aerial Odyssey
In a captivating project spanning over a decade, photographer Jakub Pyrdek has embarked on a mission to immortalize the landscapes of Burton-upon-Trent from a unique perspective - the skies.
The Town's Dual Nature
Pyrdek's project, aptly titled "Burton-upon-Trent: Between Nature and Industry," aims to showcase the town's diverse scenes and rich history. He highlights the intriguing contrast between industrial elements like silos and stainless steel pipes, and the town's Victorian architecture. This juxtaposition, he believes, is what makes Burton-upon-Trent truly special.
"The creation of this contrast is fascinating to me," Pyrdek explains. "It's a unique blend of old and new, industry and nature, and it's a challenge to capture it all through the lens of a drone."
Early Morning Magic
To capture the town's best moments, Pyrdek often rises before dawn, as early as 4 a.m. He seeks to capture the soft morning mist, the warm glow of sunrise, and the dramatic sunsets over Burton's iconic landmarks. These early hours, he believes, offer a unique perspective on the town's beauty.
"As a photographer, I'm fortunate to live in a generation where drones are accessible. They provide a powerful tool to analyze and showcase how a town like Burton seamlessly blends with its industrial surroundings," Pyrdek adds.
Community Appreciation
Recently, Pyrdek visited the town center to share his stunning aerial shots with the community. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with one resident describing the images as "straight out of a movie." Pyrdek's work has not only captured the town's physical beauty but has also sparked a deeper appreciation for its heritage.
Preserving Heritage, One Snapshot at a Time
Pyrdek's project goes beyond mere photography; it's an attempt to preserve Burton-upon-Trent's heritage for future generations. He hopes that his images will inspire the community to engage with their town's history and suggest new locations for him to capture.
"I want this project to be a collaborative effort. The more the community is involved, the richer our understanding of Burton's past and present will be," Pyrdek says.
A Deeper Connection
What makes Pyrdek's project truly special is his deep connection to the town. Having moved to Burton from Poland 18 years ago, he has spent 15 years documenting its evolution. His dedication and passion for the town's landscapes are evident in every snapshot.
"Burton has become my home, and I want to ensure its unique character is celebrated and remembered. Through my lens, I hope to capture the essence of this wonderful town and share it with the world," Pyrdek concludes.
