Boonserm Premthada's Goya Tower, named after a local female elephant, stands as a testament to the deep connection between humans, nature, and creativity.
The Elephant's Legacy
At the core of this project is a simple yet profound idea: can the remnants of elephants' existence be transformed into architecture? Premthada's answer is an emphatic yes, as he crafts a tower from handmade bricks made of elephant dung. Each brick, measuring 33 centimeters in diameter and 5 centimeters thick, is a labor of love, shaped by human hands, sunlight, and the passage of time.
What makes this project particularly fascinating is its origin story. It began with a single brick, carried from Ta Klang Village, sparking laughter and skepticism. Yet, over time, this unlikely experiment evolved into a serious exploration of how communities that raise elephants could forge new paths in craftsmanship, value creation, and architectural innovation.
A Tower of Organic Form and Function
